Fact: There are more than 800 children on the New Hanover County Department of Social Services (DSS) qualified list in need and waiting for assistance for participation in child care this summer on a full time or part time basis.
Fact: The current economic climate has left the New Hanover County Department of Social Services unable to assist these children due to a lack of funds leaving these children at home or on the streets during the day, hampering the efforts of their families to work to support themselves and/or to go to school to improve their opportunities for the future.
Fact: The YWCA provides summer camp programs on a full or part time basis.
Fact: The YWCA summer programs provide theme-based weeks offering children the opportunity to learn about other cultures and facets of the American culture as well as ecological education in the YWCA Nature Preserve.
Intent: The YWCA Lower Cape Fear is determined to take as many children off the DSS waiting list as possible and have them attend summer camp. The YWCA believes that the people, businesses and agencies of New Hanover County will see this as a positive contribution to a child’s present life and future.
Request: Sponsor a child with a donation to cover the tuition and/or fee for as many children as you personally consider possible.
